A Virgin Birth in Genesis
Every year as the Christmas season approaches, skeptics challenge and deny the possibility of the Virgin Birth of the Savior.
I find it especially curious that there are Jewish skeptics who think that a virgin birth is impossible. Why do I find this curious? Because in the Jewish Bible there is a “virgin birth” of sorts during the first week of creation. Let me explain.
On the sixth day of creation, God created Adam. Before the existence of Eve, Adam was a male virgin. From this male virgin named Adam, God pulled out a rib and used it to build a fully-grown woman. Therefore in a manner of speaking, we could say that the Blessed Virgin Adam “gave birth” to a woman, with God functioning as the Divine “midwife.”
So according to the Jewish Bible, God was able to bring forth a fully-grown woman from inside a male virgin named Adam. Why then should it seem impossible for God to bring forth a baby boy from inside the womb of a female virgin named Miriam (Mary)?
So enough of this skepticism. God is sovereign. If He wants to bring forth a woman from inside a male virgin, and a baby boy from inside a female virgin, He can do whatever He wishes.
